been busy...

I have been unable to keep up with this blog due to being very busy with forest activism and other hard work. There is no lack of loggin plans to report on but I'm overworked. Hopefully at some point I can resume posting here but until then I will leave this up as an archive and reference source.

Hi,

I'm wondering if you know of any maps/ aerial photos that exist which depict the logging history of Humbolt county (in particular the Big Lagoon area). I'm trying to find out to the nearest decade when certain areas were clearcut. this simple question is pretty hard to nail down. A response in this post's comments will do this trick.

thanks,

-Adam

I don't know off hand where to find this info but there is terra server. I don't think they have series of photos by year but they do tell you the year.

It might not be the answer you looking for but you could potentially get an increment borer, a tool which takes a small core sample out of a tree and allows you to count the growth rings. You could use it to figure out the age of the new growth in the area that was clearcut. I think this would be most accurate on the re-growth of redwood stumps.
